1 U.S. Army soldier Dead in IED Attack in Iraq

Erbil, Iraq- One United States Army soldier was killed and one more was injured yesterday October 1st, when an Army convoy was hit by an █████████████████████████ during convoy operations in Iraq.

This is the 13th American combat death since the start of Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria and the 7th since the beginning of the year.

Next of kin notification has been completed but the name is withheld pending the official Department of Defense press release.

The attack happened at around ████████████ between the cities of ███████████ on Iraq’s ████████, also known as route ██████,  an Iraqi highway which extends from ████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████. Route ███████ has been the frequent site of IED attacks against US and Allied military personnel since 2003.

According to sources, a US convoy traversing the area was hit with an ███ killing a U.S. Army soldier and wounding one more that is in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.


According to Reuters, Iraqi forces, backed by the U.S.-led coalition, began an offensive on Sept. 21 to dislodge Islamic State from Hawija.

Islamic State militants set fire to three oil wells near Hawija, west of the oil city of Kirkuk, one of two areas of Iraq still under their control, military and oil officials said.

Islamic State, the ultra-hardline Sunni Muslim group, has lost control of all the oilfields it once held in the north of Iraq.
