Fort Jackson, SC – CPT William Johnson, 34, was arrested August 14 on child pornography charges. According to the South Carolina Atty. Gen. Alan Wilson, Johnson faces six charges connected to the sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to Wilson, all six counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, constitute a felony offense that carries a maximum punishment of 10 years for each count and if Johnson is found guilty he will be facing a 60-year prison term.
Johnson was arrested by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators from the Attorney General’s Office that made the arrest aided by investigators with the Richland County Sheriff’s Office. The Department of Homeland Security also assisted with the arrest.
The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program is a national network of 61 coordinated task forces representing over 4,500 federal, state, and local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies. These agencies are continually engaged in proactive and reactive investigations and prosecutions of persons involved in child abuse and exploitation involving the Internet.
Johnson a career Army artillery officer is currently serving as an operations officer with 4th battalion, 39th infantry Regiment, a basic combat training unit located at Fort Jackson South Carolina. He has been deployed once for 10 months to Afghanistan.
